Treatment Plant Maintenance Worker

The City of Ames is conducting a recruitment to establish a Civil Service eligibility list for the position of Treatment Plant Maintenance Worker. Under general supervision, a Treatment Plant Maintenance Worker performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work including manual labor at the Water Treatment Plant or Water Pollution Control Facility; performs related work as required. This is the entry-level position in the Skill-based Pay Plan. There are currently two (2) vacancies at the Water Pollution Control Plant.

Two years of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment common to general construction, maintenance, and repair work is required. A valid State of Iowa Driver's License is required at the time of appointment. For appointments to the Water Pollution Control Facility, a Type A Commercial Driver's License is required within 3 months of appointment and shall be maintained throughout appointment. For appointments to the Water Treatment Plant, a Class B Commercial Driver's License is required within 3 months of appointment and shall be maintained throughout appointment. Finance Manager and Treasurer

West Des Moines Water Works is now accepting applications for the Finance Manager and Treasurer position.  Successful candidates will have financial management experience and be knowledgeable in governmental financial reporting standards and GAAP.   This position oversees all accounting activities of the utility, including payroll, accounts payable, purchase orders, accounts receivable, fixed assets, inventory and general ledger.  The Finance Manager and Treasurer coordinates the annual financial audit and audits of compliance issues for state, federal and local laws and regulations.  This position is also responsible for preparation of the annual budget in coordination with departmental managers.

The Finance Manager and Treasurer has direct responsibility over accounting staff, internal control policies, cash flow management and purchase of investments pursuant to the investment policy. This position is also responsible for preparing and analyzing monthly financial reports presented to the Board of Trustees of the West Des Moines Water Works.  The Finance Manager and Treasurer coordinates with municipal financial consultants and bond counsel in the issuance of debt as needed, and all related monitoring and regulatory reporting.


Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and CPA.  MBA preferred.  A minimum of six years of progressively responsible accounting experience with two years of supervisory experience preferred. 

Pay range: $78,462 - $117,692.
